Youth Exchange: The Role of Media in Environmental Protection

Our international adventure in Sacueni, Romania, was an incredible experience centered around the role of media in environmental protection. From city exploration challenges to creative workshops and thought-provoking discussions, we had an action-packed week filled with learning and fun.

We stayed in two different accommodations, just a 10-minute walk apart, while our workplace and dining area were a 30-minute walk away. Although it was a bit of a trek, the venue was fantastic—it was right next to a swimming pool complex, allowing us to unwind after our activities. One day, we even had to relocate our activities due to a wedding, which added to the adventure!
Each day began with energizers and icebreakers to set the tone. We celebrated every evening with intercultural nights, where different countries showcased their culture through food, music, dances, and games, deepening our bonds. 
Throughout the week, we dove into environmental education with activities like creating posters on the 7 Rs of the circular economy, roleplaying scenarios involving youth with fewer opportunities, and debating the impact of media on sustainable development. We even held forum theatre performances that encouraged us to rethink environmental problems and brainstorm solutions.

A major highlight was meeting locals to learn about their eco-conscious habits, along with insights from Zoltán Bokor of Romsilva Ocolul Silvic Sacueni, who shared valuable information on forest and wildlife protection.
We wrapped up the week by brainstorming creative workshops, such as “Plant Growing in Used Plastic Bottles” and “Creating Your Own Compost,” that we could take back to our home countries. By the end, we filled out our Youthpass certificates, shared hugs, and reflected on the amazing experiences and friendships we had formed.
It was an unforgettable week filled with learning, laughter, and lasting memories!
