In the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange "Trash2Treasure: Upcycle Across Borders", people from North Macedonia, Finland, Moldova, Italy, and Estonia gathered in Bitola, North Macedonia, to transform trash into art. The initiative aimed to foster creativity, cross-cultural connections, and environmental awareness.
Participants started by engaging in city games and challenges to meet locals and explore Bitola to feel part of the local community from day one. Had a hike in the local mountains to feel closer to the nature to understand why it's important to clean after yourself. They shared insights on environmental issues and recycling practices in their respective countries, learning from each other's experiences. Each group led workshops on upcycling, creating items like bags from old shirts and miniature cars from discarded materials. They also collected trash from the streets, which they used to craft sculptures. The creative pieces included robots made from old computers, vacuum cleaners or scrap metal. The project culminated in a public exhibition in Bitola's city center, showcasing the sculptures and highlighting the potential of upcycling. This event not only displayed the participants' artistic talents but also promoted the importance of recycling. Overall, "Trash2Treasure" successfully educated participants about environmental issues and recycling while fostering unity among young people from diverse backgrounds.
