Giulio, a staff member of Kora and youth worker from Italy, participated in a job shadowing mobility in Türkiye 16.05 - 01.06.2022. The mobility was hosted by Diyarbakır Çevre ve Kalkınma Derneği and the sending organization was Associazione di Promozione Sociale Kora. Giulio also took part in the short staff training course where he learned new methods on how to approach anti-discrimination topics with different target groups. The objective of that job shadowing was focusing on human rights and gender equality and women rights. As the Turkish organization is mainly working with the Kurdish minority in disadvantaged areas, they would like to learn from their experience. Türkiye has also been involved in working with Syrian and other refugees in the area, so there is another learning opportunity for Italians to see how to work in a multicultural environment. Giulio was supported by Saffet who made preparations for his own shadowing experience. During the mobility there was collaboration with several organizations to see deeper the situation in the Kurdish community in the area. There were many learning aspects in this as the younger generation is forced to learn Turkish instead of Kurdish and the native language and culture aspects are repressed. Fortunately there are still many cultural centers who are keeping up old traditions. During the mobility they collaborated with Amnesty International which is a non-governmental organization focused on human rights. They organized a pride flag colors kite flying with youngsters to draw attention to gender equality. It was a useful event for networking and creating new collaborations for the future. Overall, the mobility has several learning dimensions that were mutually useful for both hosting and sending organizations.
